Travilla 1966

Long-stemmed tulips widely spaced spell printed drama in the navy and toast costume from Travilla. The long-sleeved, comfortable jacket tops a slender dress with low-placed pockets.

Simple black silk crepe with two loops intricately twined below the left knee to soften a severely simple sheath.

A cocktail and dinner gown in V Carotte Racine Tanagra chiffon jersey boasts a matching mantle, which may be worn around the shoulders or over the head in a Far Eastern fashion.

Drifts of yellow chiffon accented with pale green handmade flowers.

Big, bold blocks of black and white in a costume with a sleeveless jacket by day, and is uncovered to reveal a tiny, black, lace-ruffled Empire bodice for the late-day scene.

Full-length cover-up jacket embroidered in gold bugle beads.

A coat in the palest blue and gold of satin and metallic plaid. Accented by a pink satin lining, a porthole collar, and patch pockets.

The popcorn texture sets of the imported Belgian wool knit suit (left) are complemented by a pumpkin jersey skimmer that matches a tent coat in thick yarn with low patch pockets.

Rain Bead shirt-dress of white cut velvet on chiffon, adorned with bugles and rhinestones. White satin bands the collar, sleeves, and closure and wraps a lower waist.

Aqua silk chiffon gown with a petal collar and a matching gold embroidered coat.

Brass and midnight blue Racine jersey with a “bumper sleeve” jacket worn over the shift.

A long-sleeved sheath with bold stripes beaded in silver glitter and diamonds. Huge, round, glittery links secure the cuffs.

Travilla and his sketches are on display at a Houston charity fashion benefit.
